About Us

What is Neighbourhood Watch?

Neighbourhood Watch is one of the biggest and most successful crime prevention initiatives ever. Behind it lies a simple idea, and a central value shared by millions of people around the country:

..."Getting together with your neighbours to take action can cut local crime"

"It's NOT about nosey neighbours, but caring for your community"

We are a residents / paid up members led Neighbourhood Watch.

Whatever the local residents / paid up members decide we try and do. Everyone knows that the police are there to fight crime, but they need your help to do an effective job. Neighbourhood Watch is all about an active partnership with the police. Neighbourhood Watch schemes can:

  • Cut crime and the opportunities for crime
  • Help and reassure those who live in fear of crime
  • Encourage neighbourliness and closer communities.

How it all began

"Many people in the neighbourhood were complaining that they were having problems. I asked around to see if they wanted to call a meeting to discuss these problems together and try to resolve them as a community. A meeting was called in September 2001 at the Bucket & Spade in Seaside and from that, it was agreed to start a Neighbourhood Watch scheme.

It was decided that it would be called 'Glanmor Neighbourhood Watch' because some of the houses in the area had been built on the old Glanmor Works site. It was decided that we should collect £1.00 per month from each member household to raise funds for the Watch. After a while we had to move to a bigger meeting venue; we moved to the Copperworks Club for a time until the club was closed down,

The Watch was, and still is very successful - we have reduced crime in the area with the help of our members, Gwalia Housing and the Police. We now meet at the Cambrian in Seaside on the first Monday of every month at 6:30pm; except for bank holidays when the meeting is moved to the second Monday.

Everyone is welcome to attend and we are always extremely pleased to have new members."
