Terror alert call to Watch Groups
Neighbourhood Watch members have been urged to stay vigilant following the car bomb incidents in London and Glasgow.
Tory Shadow Home Affairs Minister, Edward Garnier MP, told Neighbourhood Watch volunteers at the weekend that the public had a vital part to play at this time by remaining alert.
He praised the work of Neighbourhood Watch and the importance of having groups of people from local communities who could be relied upon to be the eyes and ears of the police.
The UK terror alert level was raised to 'critical' amid fears of possible further attacks and has since been reduced to 'severe'. Police have detained a number of suspects in connection with the Cherokee Jeep that crashed in flames at the main terminal building at Glasgow Airport, and the failed car bomb attempts in London.
Here are the telephone numbers to use if you have information to report.
999 – in an emergency.
0800 789 321 – police anti-terrorist hotline for anyone with tip-offs or confidential information about possible terrorist activity.
020 7930 9000 – MI5 phone line if you know something that you think may be a threat to national security.
Mr Garnier told neighbourhoodwatch.net: "Neighbourhood Watch has a serious part to play in helping the police in detecting and deterring crime. "
"The police cannot do everything on their own and the courts cannot convict offenders without evidence so we look to groups like Neighbourhood Watch to play their part as responsible and well-motivated citizens."

Security experts say there are things everyone can do during times of heightened terror alert.
-
Be vigilant. If you spot suspicious objects or cars, or people acting suspiciously, call the police or the anti-terrorism hotline.
-
Know your local community and know what should and shouldnt be happening.
-
Be alert at work and report any concerns to your boss. Make sure you know where the emergency exits are and what the firm's evacuation proceedures are.
-
Be aware of people who come and go at the place you work, such as delivery drivers.
-
Bosses should check references and employment histories for new staff, and ensure all workers know what to do in an emergency.
-
At home, know where the main switches are for electricity, water and gas as you may need to turn them off in an emergency. Keep important phone numbers handy.
-
If you are cought in an incident, follow instructions from members of the security services.
-
Be prepared for delays if you are travelling by plane, train or car.
-
Protect your identity, keeping documents like passports, driving licences and bills safe - terrorists often use stolen identities to help them carry out their attacks.
To report anything suspicious call the confidential anti-terrorist hotline on 0800 789321, Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or the police on 999.
